Sue E. Bohlin founder of EarHeadMusic founder and director of Anchor Bay Children’s Choir director of training for Piedmont Choirs Sue studied piano with Arlis Crowthers and oboe with
Salvetore Spano. She earned a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from
Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific. There she studied oboe
with Prof. Niel Tatman, piano with Prof. Joan Coulter, and voice with William DeValentine.
Her studies continued at la Escuela de Vida y Movemiento in Mexico and she had
master classes with Lothar Koch, Hans de Vries, John Mack, and Ray Still. Sue taught at
the Conservatorio Nacionál de Mexico and played oboe in Mexico City orchestras. Ms. Bohlin is currently a freelance musician in the San Francisco Bay Area.
She has worked with numerous arts organizations including the Santa Rosa Symphony,
Fremont Symphony, Napa Symphony, San Francisco Choral Society, Oakland East Bay
Symphony Chorus, Bay Area Lutheran Choral (Solo Deo Gloria), Head Royce School,
OAKE National Conference, San Francisco Community Music Center, Arts in the Schools,
Berkeley Community Chorus, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, S.F. First Unitarian Church. She sang with and accompanied the San Francisco
Chamber Singers (now Volti) for many years. Sue was Music Director and performer with George Coates
Performance Works Theatre, and she has produced and performed with the Golden Gate
International Children’s Choral Festival since 1991. Since 1984, Sue has been a key developer and director for Piedmont Choirs. She directs the Training
Department, conducts Girls Beginning and accompanys several groups. As Ass't Dir. of
the Choir's performing dept. choirs, she has performed for over 20 years with the premiere treble group
"Ensemble" who has won many awards for interpretation of new music, including three gold medals at the
2000 Choral Olympics in Linz, Austria. She has performed in major concert
venues in Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Cuba, England, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Latvia,
Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Slovenia, Singapore, Taiwan, Wales,
and throughout the U.S. Sue has prepared music and conducted recordings for radio, stage, opera,
TV, CD, and film productions. In 2001 Sue began EarHeadMusic, a series of her own compositions and arrangements, mostly for children's choir. Her music has been performed by Cantabile Children’s Choir (South SF), Cappella Choirs (Pt. Townsend, WA), Cora Nova (Berkeley CA), First Unitarian Universalist Church Choir (SF), Northern Sound Children’s Choir, Northwest Girlchoir (Seattle WA), Peninsula Women’s Chorus (Palo Alto, CA), Piedmont Children’s Choir (CA), San Francisco Chamber Singers (Volti), Seattle Girls’ Choir, and Vivace Children’s Choir (Palo Alto, CA).
